DIY: John Masters Bourbon and Cinnamon Hair Texturizer

IMG_0654 I love products like Sebastian Threads, John Masters Hair Texturizer and pomades, but none of these are healthy or cheap. So I set out to come up with a great recipe for my flat hair.

Making your own hair products is really the best option because your getting a great product that is healthy and also very cost effective! It’s a win/win/win!

Bourbon and Cinnamon Hair Texturizer
9 oz Shea butter
4 oz Beeswax
1/2 t. Corn starch (double for extra stiffness)
5 drops Bourbon (Rum or Brandy would work good as well)
3 drops Cinnamon Bark essential oil
2 drops Citrus Fresh essential oil

Their are also a lot of other combinations of scents that would be great try experimenting to see what you like! IMG_6371

1. First measure out the beeswax, shea butter and coconut oil…  get them heating in a double boiler set up.

2. Once they are completely melted pour it into the jar or container you have chosen. Quickly mix in the corn starch, bourbon and essential oils before it cools.

3. After it has completely cooled and hardened it will have a hard “shell” on it. Take a fork and mash/whip it all up.

4. The funnest part… you get to add your label. Decorate your jar any way you want and then try it out on yourself!

Let me know what you think of the recipe and how you like it!

Sincerely,
